How digital marketing is changing traditional marketing?

Social Media Marketing

Digital Marketing-> Future of marketing

We all know what is marketing. Marketing is a form of communication between you and your customers with the goal of selling your product or service them. Communicating the value of your product or service is a key aspect of marketing. Marketers use several channels to push the product information based on the reach of the channel and several other characteristics that influence the customer. Marketing has gone one step further by integrating all the channels so that the impact of advertisement on the customer is stronger and all the channels of the marketing are optimized towards the single goal of the marketer.

With the advent of Internet and its deeper penetration, it has become an indispensable medium to reach the customers. More than reaching the customers, it is targeting based on the parameters used to build segmentation profile. Today it is possible to know the interests, likes, and dislikes of the customer and in fact, build complete user profile with the depth of profile continuously increasing.

We use the Internet to market the products, brand, or content to either create brand awareness or attract traffic to the website. This concept is known as digital marketing. Digital marketing uses digital channels to reach to the consumer with information, advertisement, message etc.

The consumer today is stepping ahead of large companies because of information overflow. They can now research products and make wiser and informed choices using available digital channels. Digital Marketing is changing the way the consumers purchase products, research about the products and finally recommend to their friends.

Digital Marketing Opportunity

A research done by IAMAI-IMRB that was released earlier this year told us that

nearly 60% of urban India is online! The number of internet users in the country is set to reach 450-465 million users by the time we hit June 2017.

As per a recent study by IMRB, India currently spends 12% on digital marketing.

However, the CMO’s we spoke to, told us otherwise! Some brands and industries

are spending up to nearly 50-55% of their marketing budgets on digital. They also predict that the numbers are set to rise to 75% over the next two years.

Social Media and SEO were the major components of the “always on” budgets of the marketer. While Social Media was perceived as an important platform for customer engagement driven by its measurability, Marketers created distinct SEO strategies for desktop and mobile.

The share of Content Marketing increased in the Digital Marketing budget of 2016 with a significant rise in the share of investment in video content. This was primarily due to the surge in mobile video content consumption with the launch of 4G services and Ad-blocking.

Digital Marketing Statistics

Content Marketing has a huge potential to grow as we see a rise in Ad-blocking, increased demand for visuals and there by video formats. While video will continue to be the most preferred format in 2017, the share of Content Marketing and Content Promotion in the Digital Marketing budget is estimated to double in next two years. The share of Content Promotion in the total budget is forecasted to rise from the current 20% to 50% in the near future.

A number of companies are shifting from traditional print and TV media to digital advertising due to the increase in internet usage to communicate, publicize and attract customers
